Use it freely, modify it for yourself, don't redistribute it. That's the PolyForm Internal Use licence the source is published under.
It deletes and moves files, and it comes with no warranty. Keep backups, read what the app tells you before confirming an action, and understand that you are responsible for what happens to your data.
By downloading, installing or using Cleanup Assist, or by using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the software or the site.
These terms are between you and Richard Gaskin (RGaskinLtd), the developer of Cleanup Assist, referred to below as "the developer".
Cleanup Assist is source-available, not open source. The source code and the compiled application are licensed under the PolyForm Internal Use License 1.0.0, which is the controlling document. In summary, it lets you:
It does not permit distributing the software or your modifications of it to anyone else, whether unchanged, rebranded, bundled into another product, or sold. If you want to do something the licence does not allow, ask the developer.
This section matters more than the rest. Cleanup Assist is a tool for reclaiming disk space, which means it can permanently change, move and delete data on your computer.
The application is built to be cautious. It never acts on its own: every deletion and every move is something you explicitly start. It refuses to touch operating-system folders. When it relocates a folder to another drive it keeps the original until the copy and the junction that replaces it have both been verified, and it rolls back if any step fails. Nonetheless:
The software is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. The developer does not warrant that the software will be free of defects, that its classifications will be correct, that it will run without interruption, or that any defect will be corrected.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer will not be liable for any loss of data, loss of profits, business interruption, or any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising out of or connected to your use of, or inability to use, the software or this website — even where the possibility of such loss was known.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Cleanup Assist is supplied free of charge. Donations are gifts and do not purchase a warranty, a support commitment, or any other contractual obligation.
Official builds are published only on the project's GitHub releases page, and each release lists SHA-256 checksums you can verify against your download. Builds are not currently code-signed, so Windows will warn that the publisher is unknown. The developer takes no responsibility for copies of Cleanup Assist obtained from anywhere else, which may have been altered.
Use Cleanup Assist only on computers and storage you own or are authorised to administer, and only in ways permitted by the law that applies to you. Do not use it to access, alter or destroy data belonging to other people without their permission.
Cleanup Assist is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Microsoft Corporation or any other company whose products it detects. Windows, Microsoft Store and other product names are the trademarks of their respective owners, used here only to describe what the software works with.
This site links to third-party services, including GitHub, Vercel and Buy Me a Coffee. Their own terms and policies govern your use of them.
The developer may change, suspend or discontinue Cleanup Assist at any time, and may revise these terms. Revisions are posted here with a new date at the top, and the full history of changes is visible in the page's commit history. Continuing to use the software after a change means you accept the revised terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the country in which you live.
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in force.
Questions about these terms, or requests for permissions the licence does not grant, can be raised as an issue on the GitHub repository.
